I want a new New Zealand - Best of 2012
Often I am made aware that in many ways I am failure as a New Zealander. I grew up playing soccer rather than rugby, I don't know how to count to ten in Maori, I don't own a pair of gumboots, and to add to the blasphemy, I find the beloved Lord of the Rings movie franchise incredibly dull. I realised as I grew into adulthood that I didn't fit the 'Southern Man' myth that governs our national identity. I don't fix cars too well. I've never put up a fence. I don't drink Tui. Boxing Day Test preview
All the dominoes appear to be falling into place for what should be a riveting test match between the Australian and Sri Lankan cricket teams for the 2012 Boxing Day Test at the MCG. The forecast is for sun and an even pitch ensuring that we should see another closely fought contest similar to the nail-biter at Bellerive that went down to the last hour of play.

Serving abundantly - Best of 2012
Has anyone else laboured over the idea of serving continually, without regard for oneself but doing it from a place of limited capacity? As much as that might sound extremely holy and righteous, centred on a what-Jesus-would-do attitude, that kind of spirit is different, to one that gives whole-heartedly.

To love 'One Thing'
Life seemed far simpler as a kid, making huts under blankets, riding bikes and climbing trees. The older I get, the more stuff I acquire and the more I realise how returning to an entirely simple way of life is freeing. I don't want to see how much I can live without or verge on poverty, but I want to be clear on my priorities, my purpose, and de-clutter the deadwood that gets in the way.

Kate Middleton, the Virgin Mary and two royal babies.
She rested a bouquet of yellow flowers on her pregnant bump. Her husband tightly gripped her arm, as he led her down the steps towards a parked Jaguar. The flash of cameras reflected upon her bronzed cheeks. Her hair draped perfectly around her face, disguising any trace of her hospital stay.
