Carbon Tax. What is the effect on Australians?

Carbon Tax. What is the effect on Australians?

The introduction of carbon tax, which took effect on 1st July 2012, has brought about some panic pertaining to the impact on the household budget. I have witnessed; political slinging matches, assumptions and general 'bad taste' toward the Government and the tax via Facebook, blogs and anywhere that comments can be left or made by the public. .

  • School Holidays

I believe school holidays are a really special time, especially when you have young children. The holidays are certainly something that we all really look forward to in our family. And with this week being the first week of winter holidays in Victorian schools we have a few weeks of fun times ahead.

  • Asylum Seekers

Increasing numbers of boat people risk their life to find refuge in Australia The recent capsizing of two boats attempting to enter Australia has once again sparked major discussion in Parliament and has sent the media on another 'boat people frenzy'. While Australia does have to take care and have systems in place to protect our borders, it has become such an over publicised topic and one which needs really needs to be viewed in a wider context.

  • Sunday Sport? Lessons for athletes today from Jesus' words (Matthew 11 to Chapter 28 verses 12-13)

The Pharisees, with a legalistic tone, tell Jesus what is unlawful to do on the Sabbath (Matthew 12 verse 2). So applied today, if a Christian athlete wants to honour God what should he or she not do on the Sabbath? The question is a complex one that has divided Christians ever since Jesus had this discussion. In answering the question we need to find the underlying principle Jesus points to.

  • Lessons of a Learned Man

I have a degree. It took me a long time, but I finally got it. Three and half years of study, practice, late nights, early mornings, high effort and low income have all culminated into three very expensive letters after my name: B.Mus.

  • Say Yes to the Insanity

My pet peeve lately has been these wedding television programs that obviously have been enthralling the masses that don't assess what they're exposing themselves to. Now I may watch the odd fat person doco but my amusement with the obese stems from childhood immaturity where the ill-timed (wind) joke, people being set on fire and of course chubbies doing the Macarena make me chortle. Call me sick if you wish but I am proposing that there is a new brand of sickness with our obsession with the we

  • Conspicuous consumption capitalism, Communism Christianity and tee shirts

The day I attempted to buy a hand-held vacuum cleaner was the day I decided to dismantle capitalism – but not with communism, not even with the institution of Christianity (although that was coming close.)

  • The Chronicles of Kings keeps us focused

The books of Kings and Chronicles give us a fantastic guide into how we should approach our daily lives. Although it may seem like reading the same thing over and over, Kings 1 & 2 approach the age of kings in a works fashion, while 1st and 2nd Chronicles focuses more on a spiritual journey. Both though, show us in depth the type of lives God wants us live.
