ANZAC – New Zealand

ANZAC – New Zealand

It was the morning of the 25th of April, and five people scrambled out of bed at 5:30am and into the darkness. The reason for this auspicious awakening was Anzac day. And my flatmates and I were scrambling to make, what I thought was a small, beachside dawn service. .

  • Drinking ourselves to death

In my neighbourhood every 50 meters or so you'll find a Bottlo, that is a bottle shop. There is one behind my house that has recently been said to be expanding, all the while other stores to the bottle shop's left and right are closing down. Supermarkets compete with bottle shops selling alcohol and it seems all of them are winning out.

  • Same-Sex Marriage: Where the Real Disagreement Lies

The issue of whether the definition of marriage should be legally changed to allow same-sex marriage has been dominating the ethical sphere in the Western World. Same-sex marriage has already been legalised in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Sweden, New Zealand, Uruguay, and France. It has also been legalised in parts of the USA, Brazil, and New Mexico.

  • Slowly working on it: How to play the marriage game before he puts a ring on it

I have come to the rather sudden realisation that pre-marital dating isn't just about avoiding sex, with the main focus being not taking one's clothes off.

  • In the age of the internet are we any more connected?

In this modern age of convenient, near instantaneous, communication, thanks to the internet, one would have thought that I could stay in touch with events around the world easily.

  • Christian Humour – An oxymoron?

"Elesha, what did the fisherman say when he caught a fish?" said an overexcited 8-year-old. "What?" I asked. "I caught a fish" she replied, giggling hysterically.

  • Genius……

I often hear about people who experience this wonderful creative flow. Something that writers would call the opposite of \"writers block\". People get this feeling from time to time, usually when they are doing something that involves an element of creativity. I have experienced this doing a number of things; writing, thinking, making surfboards and various other projects.

  • What is mine to give?

I still remember the first time I held a crisp green $100 note in my hand. I was about nine, and though it wasn't mine I was enthralled by it. It could buy that lego set I had been eying up for weeks now, and maybe a new bike as well.

  • Learn from a Chick-Flick

There is a time and a place for spending a night in with a box of chocolates, ice cream and a good movie.

  • Culture and Humanity - discussing the philosophy

Could relationship exist without culture? Could culture be the defining agent of human relationship? It gives definition to verbal and, more importantly, non-verbal communication. And isn't communication the key to intimacy, and intimacy the key to relationship? It therefore, unequivocally supplies meaning to that which without, would be void and irrelevant, nay; confusing and destructive to greater intimacy and ultimate shalom.

  • Take a sad song and make it better

I was eight when I met him. A black furred, charming teddy bear named Dickens, he was given to me as a Christmas gift and I loved him. My sister had a matching golden haired bear named Chadsworth and together we would make and package them food out of paper as though these bears were of our own flesh and it was our job to nurture them.

  • Church Planting in the flesh – a Greek encounter with the Roma Gypsie peoples

There is nothing more magnetic and awe-inspiring than a group of passionate believers gathering to worship their Saviour Jesus Christ. Not because social culture dictates they should do so – especially if it is a Sunday; not because their church is holding a weekly prayer meeting which all members should attend; but because they are grateful and over-joyed to be brought out of darkness into the light of Christ.
