The "Sh-" Word I hate the Most

The "Sh-" Word I hate the Most

I was lying in bed trying to fall asleep. My jetlag was relentless, and I was no nearer to blissful unawareness (read: falling asleep) than I had been three hours prior. After another 20 or so minutes of this, I thought to myself, "Tina, you really ought to be using this time effectively. You should pray or something.".

  • Where's the Fire?

There is a hustle and bustle in the air at the moment. It's that time of year. No, not that time of year. Which time of year you may ask? We aren't celebrating the birthday of the Queen. And, we most certainly are not celebrating the man in the red suit. In May we celebrate Mother's Day.

  • "That's so retarded"

"You're so retarded!" "What a retard!" "That's SO retarded."

  • Too busy to live!

On Thursday night I stood in the shower sobbing; the tears were loud, the tears were full of mucus and my face was a crimson mass, utterly contorted and revolting. There were weird jerky sobs (as there should be in any decent breakdown) and shrieking sounds, which resembled a bizarre fusion of chihuahua and hyena.

  • The Power of Word

In the beginning there were words. Words that in their being, brought earth and all creation into being with them. Words that shaped land and ocean, sky and heavens, words that placed stars into the atmosphere and brought water out of springs in the earth, to water the ground. That the ground might bloom into life, and the walking, breathing life that lived upon the earth might eat of the blossoming of the earth. All this came from words.

  • Piracy: it really is a crime

I'm a big movie fan. Like, really big.

  • Out of the pansexual closet

Sexuality in this day and age is an enigma. But then so are people. Many people today can be androgynous or gender neutral or just unspecific and confused. I get that. Of all people I am most sympathetic to that. So I'm coming out of my closet right now and admitting it… I'm pansexual. That's right – it's not just men or women that get my motor running – its boys, girls, mermaids, fauns and possibly even centaurs.

  • The worth of arguing as compared to God's eternal glory

"I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose." 1 Corinthians chapter 1, verse 10.

  • Getting a kick out of KYCK

At the start of Youth this year after the summer break, one of the leaders went around asking everyone if they wanted to go to "KYCK", so when I was asked, the first thing I said is "What's a KYCK?".

  • Jesus in the land of Mana

Poor old 'moist'. The most unpopular word in the English language. It's interesting that it's still considered the king of hated words when we have so many that should be blacklisted these days. Like 'hashtag', 'selfie', 'yolo' or 'meme'. Not to mention the nauseating 'LOL' and 'ROFL'. And I don't think anyone ever wants to hear the word 'Kony' ever again. Ever.

  • Dove's 'real beauty' fails to satisfy

You may have seen the latest video from cosmetics company Dove doing the rounds online – a short 'experiment' seeking to change public perception of 'real beauty'. Dove invited several women to be part of their campaign video. Each woman was asked to describe their facial features to a retired police sketch artist who sat concealed behind a floaty white curtain. A stranger is asked to repeat the task after spending time getting to know the woman. The sketch artist works away at two images – one

  • Good or Evil? What is sport? A true value of sport?

Lance Armstrong doping confessions, cricket match fixing, steroids in school sport, experimental drug use in elite sport. Sport's evils have been revealed in all their horror and many are asking, "What good is sport?"
