  • To the Church in Thessalonica – Reflections from Greece

One week after leaving the comforts of Australia's summer for the winter of the ancient city of Thessaloniki, Greece, I've served in a soup kitchen, played football with some gypsy kids, attended a youth conference, played drums for the church's worship team, and most importantly, learnt how to order some pizzas for delivery in Greek.

  • Slipping into the saddle: A grapple with fear

I\'m sitting here in the stinking hot summer sun. A consistent cloud of dust is swirling above my head and the pervading sound of crunching gravel is accompanying the sound of crickets, the calling of birds and the occasional sound of the next-door farms cows. Memories are flooding back to the forefront of my mind as I sit here watching two cowgirls train their horses; one of these being my mum.

  • The Mask

I\'ve done it multiple times this week. I\'m thinking you have too. In fact, I\'d be willing to bet my next weeks wages on it. I\'m not actually sure I can even stop, because sometimes this is all I know. Everyday, I don my most prized and trusted possession. My mask.

  • Cottonwool Kids

We all long for a great story, to be powerful, or become part of something bigger than us. We're told, "you can be anything you want to be," but we're not told that life is often tough and very often mundane as you wake up on a Monday morning. We want the glory, but aren't so sure about all the hard work. We want the prize held out by popular culture whether its celebrity, money, comfort or something more honourable.

  • Why you (a hip, twenty-something, Jesus-loving, well-adjusted, cardigan-wearing Christian) should read Plato

You've probably heard of Plato. I don't know which image you have of him in your mind. Is it the image from Raphael's School of Athens? Or the more popular idea of a 'philosophical ninja'? Perhaps you know him from theological studies: no doubt for those of you studying theology, there is almost an aversion to Plato. All the bad ideas in church history can, apparently, be blamed on Greek philosophy.

  • Scientists: the New Priesthood of the Modern Age

Often I think society portrays science as a golden endeavour where the pure-hearted scientists delve into the unknown to seek the truth for the benefit of humanity. Science is often portrayed as the final bastion of truth in an otherwise meaningless and secular existence. Furthermore scientists are talked as if they are a new priesthood, providing guidance and light for the masses.

  • Tiger - he is slowly creeping out of the Woods

It was supposed to be the tale of a legend, a tall tale we would tell our grand-kids, we were around to see, the greatest golfer that ever lived. Even better than that, it was the tale of an African American kid, making it in a sport dominated by white men around the world.

  • Shed Happens

I'm an Aussie bloke. Like most Aussie blokes, I tend to keep my cards pretty close to my chest when it comes to the struggles I'm facing. Whether I'm having marital challenges, issues with family, trying to work out my future or dealing with things from my past, you would have to dig pretty deeply to get to the truth of my situation.

  • One size fits all

Score! I don't have to try it on. I can just pick it up, commit to it and know that it'll fit me. I definitely come under the category of "all" right? Of course I do.

  • Questioning authority...

I remember from my school days an incident in which I was wrongfully accused by the head master of beating up another kid in the schoolyard. I was hauled up to the principal's office one morning and in front of a bullied child\'s parent given a stern dressing down and threatened with expulsion for something I had nothing to do with.

  • My "stuff" will never save me

I like stuff. There, I said it.
