The umbrella girl

The umbrella girl

This story was inspired by my trip to India, and a poem that I wrote..

  • The world is yours and everything in it!

God blesses those who are humble for they shall inherit the whole earth.

  • French fries for God

Scorched hands, greasy fingers and slippery floors are the things that come to mind when I remember my time in the fast food industry. Little red marks would appear all the way up my arm from the oil spitting out of the fryers. And the classic fish'n'chips smell wouldn't leave my trousers after the third wash.

  • The most fruitful summer of my life

Our calendars are clustered with our great many plans. We fantasise about futures that we hope will come to fruition. We dream up these ideal destinies, quite sure that we know what is best for us. Ultimately though, we can plan every moment from dusk till dawn, until our dying day, but it is only that which the Lord has ordained that will come to pass (Proverbs 19 verse 21). Whatever He wills, will happen.

  • A guide to the inner wardrobe of simplicity

Has anyone else like me had the dream since childhood to own nothing but the clothes on their back and pillowcase tied to a stick and swung over their shoulder - containing only a few earthy trinkets?

  • The sexual dilemma

Throughout the ages, the Church has had a hard time approaching the issue of sex and sexuality. Reactions range from Origen, who initially took quite a literal view of scripture. That is until he applied Matthew 19 verse 12 literally, "There are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven" He is known for changing his mind after this event and began to read scripture quite metaphorically.

  • Battle against an unseen Enemy

Throughout our entire lives as Christians we are engaged in a battle against an invisible enemy, and it is our job to pass on the means to victory onto others.

  • Be prepared

God is allowing Christian families to be murdered for their faith, Christian women and children to be enslaved and molested by the barbaric Islamist extremist group known as the 'Islamic State'.

  • I used to care

As a journalist and more specifically a human being with a heart, I used to care a lot about the broken world around me. I'd see images on the news that would utterly crush me. People fighting, dying, making peace then deciding to fight again. Even here in my own city, the loneliness, poverty and addiction that I saw always troubled me. Sometimes I would make toasties for the homeless guys living outside our building. To sum it up, I cared and tried to do something about it.

  • Finding rest in times of pain

We all go through it. No one is immune to suffering in this world. We will all go through some form of pain or suffering at any point in our lives. A life cut short because of a deadly disease. Lives taken in motoring accidents or when a natural disaster strikes, depression, unemployment, broken relationships and the list could go on. It is well known fact that pain is a part of life.

  • What the day demands

This is not a time for weak leaders. Every sphere of life is now showing the gaping wounds left by a world gone mad with idealism and political correctness at the expense of reality.

  • Crap hit the fan. Again.

There seems to be a lot of crap things happening at the moment.
