Practise following Jesus

Practise following Jesus

When I think about my teenage years, sometimes I can't do anything else but laugh. Grumbling was something my siblings and I were inclined to do whenever we were asked to do something by our parents. As teens, we also thought curfews spoiled our fun and so we would break them. Sometimes we even thought we had gotten away with our bad behaviour, only to find our parents knew exactly what had happened and punished us. .

  • Brad Pitt has both testicles removed to prevent cancer...not

Now imagine this was a real headline today for the papers or the magazines. Would people be praising and high fiving him saying it is the brave thing to do, or would people be questioning him on why he is having his perfectly healthy testicles removed from his body?

  • The Secret Gospel of Thomas

In December 1945, Arab peasants were digging for a \'soft soil\' near Nag Hammadi in Egypt. They hit a red earthenware jar and discovered inside thirteen papyrus books bound in leather. It was an astonishing archaeological discovery comprised of 52 manuscripts written in Coptic. These texts attracted the attention of scholars and historians all over the world, and arguably the best-known of these works is the Gospel of Thomas.

  • It's just a 'joke', Babe

Comedy is one of our favourite pastimes in the west. We love a good laugh, something to relax to, and something to make us feel superior. Comedy has also been a vehicle for social change in the western world. From its beginnings in old Attic comedy, through to its current more improvised stand-up cousins; it continues to represent some of the public engagement in public ideas, thoughts and opinions.

  • A falsely immoral past: Incorrectly judging the past by the present

Romans 5: 1-2: 1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.

  • Will the real Jesus please STAND UP? A personal journey of discovering the political leanings of Jesus

Lately, Christians in politics have been receiving an avalanche of negative media coverage. I find it quite sad. A month ago the Australian Christian Lobby lost ownership of its on-line domain name. A satire group, the Australian Cat Ladies, bought www.australianchristianlobby.org! You have to give them credit for their ingenuity. But I don't think it's funny that the Australian Cat Ladies are just one of the many groups that hate Christianity and politics mixing together.

  • There's enough room for everyone

There's a quote by Confucius that I think is quite appropriate for today's article. Confucius once said, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." This idea can be deemed as true for some people. However, there are some people who don't believe people should follow this quote. It all comes down to perspective, which is the theme for this article.

  • So...What hope do we have?

Someone recently asked me, \"if there was one verse in the Bible you could give to your children to remember, what would it be?\"

  • Subway, Sandwiches and the Search for Authenticity

For the sake of full disclosure, I must begin this article with a confession. I am a Subway-aholic. I don\'t mean I love riding around in subterranean trains designed to boost the public transport system without creating a metropolitan eyesore (I don\'t think New Zealand has this kind of technology yet). Instead, I\'m talking about the Subway of the sandwich speciality. You probably know the one - Eat Fresh! Jared the Subway Guy! The healthy fast-food alternative!
