The words are alive!

The words are alive!

The stars are out in full, twinkling lights splashed on a black canvas, as I walk from my car to the front door at the end of yet another busy day. I pause briefly to admire them, and then hurriedly make my way to a warm bed and the hope of long awaited sleep. But as my tired eyes close I remember I haven't opened my Bible today..

  • The Christian, The Gospel, and Poverty Part 1

Sometimes finding a slum is as easy as turning the corner. Pastor John leads us through an apartment complex littered with plastic wrappings and cigarette butts before pushing us into a taxi. The stench of urban life hangs thickly before our noses. Smog, uncollected waste, and dust mingles with the heat and humidity of this South Asian country.

  • Hope is real

Imagine a world where all Christians were drab, serious and austere, without a sense of humour. In such a world the Church would have virtually no positive influence on anyone, since part of our job as the body of Christ is to exhibit hope to the world, as salt and light.

  • As for me and my house: parenting tips from a 30-something single woman

I'm no expert. I've never had kids. Heck I'm not even married. Yet, I've had several friends ask me for parenting advice. Going off my last post ("Tick tock goes the biological clock") one would think I have kids on the brain.

  • Look no further: The bible has the answers to the world's problems

Recently as I studied part of Hosea in my bible reading. I was struck by the words God spoke through His prophet to the people of Israel. Reading through the case God brings against His people I see a similar pattern of decay (environmentally, socially, economically, and morally) in the western world today.

  • Afraid to ask the hard questions

I've listened to plenty of discussions about sensitive issues such as politics, war, global warming, homosexuality, abortion and whether Israel should be allowed to occupy Palestinian land. Polarising as these topics are, many arguments are lacking in discernment, research, and knowledge beyond what Wikipedia / parents / friends / professors or pastors think.

  • Exodus of Soviet Union and U.S.A from Afghanistan

The history of Afghanistan in the last four decades is one of the most complicated, chaotic and non-predictable political histories in the world. In the last four decades, Afghanistan has gone through many political and ideological changes yet none of them were able to last. From the 1970's to 2001 and from then until now, this country has experienced revolutions and a variety of ideological regimes, political administrations, invasions and wars.

  • The 'worst thing' about Christians

I work in marketing for a nail gun company, which basically means I spend a lot of time trying to find new ways to tell people how to nail things (yes, I understand what an innuendo is).

  • At War with Modesty

Recently I got into a conversation with a Danish musician who was busy crowd sourcing for an upcoming recording. We met in a smokey bar, introduced by a mutual friend who happened to be the other half of the musical duo. She was a friendly girl- the type who immediately puts you at ease, because you knew she really doesn't care what others think of her.

  • City take Control off Liverpool in Title Race!!!

Manchester City have taken their biggest stride yet, with 1 hand on the title with a hard fought 3-2 win away at Everton on Saturday evening. City are now 1st on the ladder for the first time in over a month and need two wins in their last two games to ensure a 2nd Premier League title.

  • Is the Church growing in tolerance to iniquity?

Some years ago, I remember a Pastor inviting me to his church to give a testimony of how I became a Christian. As I walked up to the front of the church to give my testimony, I couldn't help but think how sad it was in a way, to see only a handful of people in the congregation.

  • Holiday back to China 1.

After a year's hard work, my wife Heyley and I went back to Chongqing, China for our holiday during April.
