As Christians in Australia, we are incredibly fortunate to be allowed to teach scripture classes in schools across the country. There are many compelling reasons why we should get involved and support schools ministry and these have been written about in great detail.

I recently took my sons to the 2014 A-League Grand Final between Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers. With 52,000 spectators we yelled, chanted and hung on every pass and missed shot. The game was 1-1 at full time after Brisbane scored with only 5 minutes left and had to go to extra time.

As an endurance athlete I have come across many extreme events. Events such as the marathon (42km run) and Ironman Triathlon (3.8km swim, 180km ride, 42km run) were once considered extreme. Now the bar has been raised to new crazy levels.

Desperation and faithfulness in suffering
Desperation is something I think we have all felt quite acutely in our lives. Sometimes it can feel like we try to do everything right, yet only receive suffering. Desperation can make us do strange and unkind things, producing a profound sense of loss and regret. This regret however doesn't even have to come from doing obvious wrong.
