Millions of viewers worldwide were glued to their TVs with the revival of the 1990s sci-fi/drama/thriller series - The X-Files. FBI agents Scully and Mulder were back to tackle unsolved cases known as the "X-Files".
In the original series, Scully, a sceptic and medical doctor, uses logic and scientific alternatives to disprove Mulder's belief in the possibility of paranormal (and even extraterrestrial) explanations for the unsolved mysteries contained in the X-files.
The X-Files not only offers gripping entertainment for die-hard fans of the series, but also questions our world view.
Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs), paranormal phenomena, supernatural beings (e.g. angels and demons) and aliens. Are any of these fact or are they simply a myth? Are there any "hidden" truths in the fiction we watch today?
The internet is filled with documentaries and videos on UFOs and aliens. A number of people claim to have encountered UFOs or been abducted by aliens. There are conspiracy theories involving governments concealing extraterrestrial information from the public. But are these just conspiracy theories or they reality?
Experiences influence world views
Our world view can have a high impact on the way we perceive things. In the documentary: "The Hidden Hand: Alien Contact and the Government Cover-Up", Richard Dolan (Historian and Author of UFOs & The National Security State VOL. I and II), says "humanity has gone through a non-stop change of it's world views...and today, now in the early 21st century you will talk to scientists who will finally admit that yes, it seems to be possible or even likely that there is intelligent life elsewhere in this universe..."1
I grew up in an environment that made it very apparent that supernatural beings were real. This influence coupled with my Christian belief system has made a great impact on my current world view.
I love watching sci-fi films. But at the same time, I try my level best to separate fact from fiction. I don't believe that aliens, extraterrestrials or UFOs exist in the sci-fi film sense (e.g. human-like beings living on Mars or Jupiter or any other galaxy). But I do believe in the existence of the supernatural - something that is beyond this world. Some may relate to my experiences, but there are possibly many others with different experiences that may find my world view intolerable.
This is a question that puzzles me: Why is it easier for someone to believe that extraterrestrials exist out there, but so hard to believe in the existence of supernatural beings? Is it possible that these alien intelligent life forms are in fact supernatural beings and not aliens from another planet? Call this far fetched or beyond reasoning but how do we know that when people say they have seen aliens, they haven't in fact seen a demon?
Is it possible that the idea of the supernatural is so foreign to them that the only explanation they can give is that it is an "alien abduction"? But so many people outright deny the existence of the supernatural but have no problem believing in the possibility of extraterrestrial life. Is one view more plausible than the other?
What about UFOs?
So a UFO is thought to be a spacecraft from another planet or an unfamiliar object. To scholars in this area - pardon my ignorance. Are we unable to identify because we are not familiar with that technology? Does other technology that I am unfamiliar with exist? Absolutely!
It may be foreign to me but most certainly familiar to those exposed to it. Hypothetically, if a mobile phone was taken to the most remote place that has had no exposure to such technology, is it possible that people would think it "other worldly" even though it was created by a human being right here on earth?
So what is true?
There are a number of things that our humans minds cannot and may never comprehend. Science has a lot of explaining to do. However, I believe that science doesn't always have the answers. Is it really too far fetched to believe that some answers are not found in science but in supernatural, spiritual beings?
I believe that God, angels and demons are real. I have no confusion there. I believe that God [Jehovah] is the ultimate truth and hence He can lead us to the truth. God is not of this world. He exists outside of our space and time. God is supreme. God is awesome.
Myth or fact? You can be the judge. To those seeking the truth, take a leap of faith and dare to believe. Earnestly ask God, and He will show you the truth.
