Evangelist Franklin Graham has blasted Target for putting their "customers at risk" following the arrest of a transgender who allegedly took pictures of woman in a changing room.
Graham, who has been a vocal critic of retail store's open policy on transgenders, said that it was "just a matter of time" before such incidences would occur.
"Target is the one inviting sexual perverts into their stores," he wrote on Facebook. "Shame on Target, and shame on their CEO & Chairman of the Board Brian Cornell!"
Sean Patrick Smith, who also goes by Shauna Patricia Smith, was arrested at a Target store in the US state of Idaho. The 46 year old who identifies as a transgender woman was booked under a felony count of voyeurism, reported the East Idaho News.
A witness told police that the victim demanded the pictures to be deleted by the accused and chased him after he ran out of the store.
Transgenders using public bathrooms and trial rooms has become a heated issue in the United States.
In April, Target announced that trangenders were free to use the bathrooms and fitting rooms as per the gender they identified with. However they faced backlash for their stance by several organizations.
The American Family Association, has started a petition to boycott Target, which has gathered almost 1.4 million signatures.
Earlier this year the Obama administration issued a directive to public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathroom according to their identity, and that schools violating the directive would forego federal funding. However 23 states have already sued to block the directive from coming into force, Reuters reported.
