Production of the Microsoft Surface 3, the atom-based tablet first introduced back in May 2015, will be discontinued in December 2016.
According to AdDuplex, a cross-promotion network for Windows, the Surface 3 was Microsoft's third highest selling product this month with 21.5% of total sales, behind the Surface Pro 4 at 30.9% and Surface Pro 3 at 33.9%.
This has led many to question why the tech giant has decided to stop one of its highest selling Windows 10 hardware products. Many have speculated that there might be a successor of the Surface 3 in the works.
According to ZDNet, Microsoft officials have been unclear on whether they will introduce a successor anytime soon. They also noted that Microsoft will postpone its next version of Windows Redstone 2 until early 2017.
Rumours are also circulating that Microsoft might rollout their Surface Pro 5 before the end of the year.
