Meizu Technology, a Chinese consumer electronic company is reportedly preparing to launch a smartwatch soon.
The company, founded in 2003, has manufactured MP3 and MP4 players and smartphones to date, and is currently one of the top 10 smartphone manufacturers in China with 8.9 million units sold worldwide in the first half of 2015.
The adoption of smartwatches by tech companies is seeing a slow, but positive rate of growth. As of now, only a few smartphone companies are manufacturing their own smartwatches.
It seems Meizu is looking to join the ranks after smartwatch photos surfaced on Chinese social media platform Weibo.
According to a report, the company is likely to name its first smartwatch the "Charmed Blue Watch" and will feature a tent leather strap, customized wallpaper, and three control buttons on the right side of the watch.
Additionally, the watch will be powered by a Rockchip RK6321 SoC Dual core processor with low powered Cortex A5 cores.
It has also been assumed that the watch will not be running on an Android OS, as the platform strictly supports Qualcomm chips.
The Meizu smartwatch might include long-lasting battery and some fitness features. Many have speculated that the watch will come at a competitive price with an enticing list of features.
The tech company has sent out a press release for an event on August 10, during which they are expected to its new wearable gadget there.
