Leicester City have won the most unlikely of titles, finishing the English Premier League season strongly with positive results that meant finishing the season on 81 points and only loosing 3 matches on the way.
With such a great season, and winning awards throughout the league, the only prize missed was Vardy capping a sensational season with 24 league goals, but one behind Kane who finished with 25 to win the golden boot award.
Leicester will now fight hard to build a squad capable of competing in Europe, as they also struggle to hold players as the weight of expectation grows. Overall a sensational season for Leicester as the 5000-1 outsiders win a historic title.
Relegation was confirmed just before the final round of the season, with Sam Alladyce pulling off the great escape again, this time with Sunderland. This means Newcastle, Villa and Norwich all relegated down to the Championship. The relegation is now estimated to cost each club over $50 million and promotion back the Premier League is never guaranteed.
The fight for the top 4 champions league places went down to the wire with Arsenal on the final day of the season overtaking Spurs to finish 2nd on the table whilst Manchester City finished strongly and confirmed 4th spot. This then meant Manchester United could not take over 4th and have to settle for 5th spot, meaning the Europe League in 2017.
The biggest news to come out of the end of season, is Van Gal's sacking from Manchester United, just days after winning the FA Cup. The sacking was not a surprise after United didn't do well in the League or Champions league, however was a little distasteful after winning the FA Cup.
Van Gal's replacement, will be Jose Moriniho which has been warmly received by United on a reported $30 million a year over 3 years for the Portuguese coach.
The European Championship is now just weeks away, with the opening match between holders France and Romania on the 10 June.
The widely exciting competition brings 24 teams for the first ever time, with many of the clubs now well into their pre match fixtures which including England defeating Australia 2-1 in Sunderland.
