The wait is finally over as battle.net launched the fan-made StarCraft RPG 'StarCraft II', a new multiplayer game that is now in open beta before its final launch next month.
The game takes place in an alternate timeline featuring characters such as Kerrigan, Jim Raynor, Arcturus Mengsk, Valerian Mengsk, Zeratul and Izsha.
It's catchy back story reads:
"Far from Earth, in a region of space called the Koprulu sector, the terran-colonized world of Mar Sara was at a critical juncture. The alien zerg, a hive-mind bent on devouring all life, had infested the planet, and the Confederacy (the government overseeing Mar Sara and other terran worlds) had evacuated its military personnel, abandoning the colony to be torn apart by the swarm."
Developer, Upheaval Arts, began the huge task of creating the StarCraft game five years ago according to fan requests, that features third person action RPG elements of World of Warcraft.
"Today we announce the Open Beta of StarCraft Universe: Beyond Koprulu, and the full launch slated to release one month from now!" a statement from the team read.
"We don't own the intellectual property on StarCraft, so we cannot sell SCU, but we ask those who are able and enjoy what we've done, to back us on Indiegogo, a platform endorsed by Blizzard for community developers to receive donation."
To start playing the game, you need to head to battle.net and download the Starter Edition for free.
After logging in, navigate to the Arcade and type 'SC Universe' in the search bar on the rop right. Click on one of the maps and press 'Play.'
