2K Games' shooting game 'Battleborn' has been doing very low on sales. It is perhaps 2016's most talked about hard luck story in the gaming industry this year. The game has been compared unfortunately with Overwatch on grounds that are mainly based on assumptions instead of facts.
The first-person shooter game with multiplayer online combat arena elements was released in May this year, but since its launch, sales of the game have lackluster. One of the reasons for its flop is said to be Battleborn's narrative.
After a financial report was released, Battleborn's distributor, Take-Two Interactive's CEO Strauss Zelnick said, "The game launched to solid reviews, but the game's performance in the market has been witnessed below the expectations. The distributor still believes that over time, there is an opportunity to grow the players for this unique experience."
Zelnick added that 2K will carry on to drive engagement and recurrent users spending on the title through add-on content and virtual money.
The CEO claimed that they are still delivering fresh content to Battleborn, as audiences love the game. He added that they are still receiving virtual currency for Battleborn.
The distributor also stated that as the business is low and slow, they are not counting it out but just informing the public about the present status of the game.
As per the company's financial report, the distributor had spent nearly US$28.8 million due to "higher marketing cost for the releases of Battleborn and their upcoming lineup."
Meanwhile, it was also speculated that a lot of Battleborn's marketing had failed to convey what the game was really about, focusing primarily on CG animations than about the characters, leading gamers to believe that this was a story driven shooter similar to Borderlands.
