With radical Islam, lawlessness, and immorality on the rise in today’s society, we need a radical move of God to reshape the minds of men. We must get rid of the escape mentality. We’ve got a job to do on this earth and we must do it while it is day.
Plunging into Darkness
All the schemes and strategies that men have put up to improve the lives of men have further plunged many into darkness. We need a radical awakening, revival that will pull down the structures of darkness and set up God’s kingdom in the heart of men.
The Welsh Revival, Azusa Street Revival, and Hebrides Revival have all come and gone. We must thirst for something greater. If the glory of the latter house must be greater than that of the former, then we are primed for a move of God in this generation that will shock the world. But the question we must ask ourselves is, ‘‘are we ready?’’
Preparing for revival
Before the great outpouring of Joel 2, the prophet Joel prophesied a great movement of repentance accompanied by fasting and prayer
‘‘Gird yourselves and lament, you priests, wail, you who minister before the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, you who minister to my God; for the grain offering and the drink offering are withheld from the house of your God. Consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly; gather the others and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord, and cry out to the Lord (Joel chapter 1, verses 13-14 NKJV).’’
Before the Hebrides Revival of 1949, two sisters, Peggy and Christine Smith spent months praying for revival in their humble cottage. Also before the Azusa Street Revival, Frank Bartleman spent months in painful agony of prayer. One thing is certain, there can be no revival without heartfelt prayer. Anytime believers gather together in one accord in prayer, expect a rumbling!
Living in revival
One of the great tragedies of the past centuries was that many who prayed for the revival were strong critics of it. To live in the revival we must be as children. Jesus said we cannot enter into the kingdom until we become as children. We must be prepared to say, ‘I know nothing, lead me Holy Spirit.’’ We must be ready to ride with Him into unchartered territories. We must expect the unexpected.
Waiting for God to act
Many expect God to act according to what they know but true revival may come with unexpected manifestation. The Pharisees who taught about the coming Saviour for centuries were the most vivid critics of Him when He appeared. Only the humble perceived the King in a manger. May we be humble enough to cast down our crowns when the King appears in His glory.
I believe God will do greater in this generation than in the past generations but we must be humble enough to ride with God into paths unknown!
As you set yourself in alignment with God’s will for revival, pray the following prayer or something similar with an expectation in your heart for the move of God
‘‘Father God, thank you for the outpouring of your Spirit upon all flesh, your Holy Spirit that quickens us to call upon your name. Lord, start a revival in me first, I yield to you to energize my spirit, and may this fire you are fanning in my heart burn to my environs. Amen.’’
