It was reported by Compass News that four Christian churches and convents were damaged by a series of bomb blasts which happened on Sunday. The explosion occurred in the city of Mosul and Baghdad. This was confirmed by Dr. Moeller. No fatalities were reported by the news agency.
Dr. Moeller has called on local churches to stand with Christians, saying they did not want to leave but were requesting help instead, reported the Mission Network News (MNN).
"Our call to the church is to stand with them, to answer their requests for help. It's not that they want to flee: they want to stay in their homes; they want to stay in their communities. But they need help," Moeller explained.
The ministry is serving persecuted Christians through the provision of basic every day essentials such as: food, housing, heating, clothes and medical care. In Syria and Jordan, Open Doors is currently providing similar relief for the neediest families among the refugees.
The ministry along with others were focused on strengthening the Christian remnant who remained in the Muslim-dominated nation to uphold the cause of Christ, he continued.
"That is why Open Doors and other agencies are working very hard right now to strengthen the Christian community there, to make sure that a witness remains in that country, and that the cause of Christ continues to go forward, despite the attacks of the enemy," he told Mission Network News (MNN).
Recently, the Prime Minister of Iraq has assured the Vatican ambassador to the country that the government was doing all it can to ensure the safety of Christians.
