Around the Bible Society office Reverend Willis is already referred to as "The Rev", hence the blog's name. The idea grew from many a spirited lunch-time discussion about things going on in the world, with The Rev sharing a Biblical perspective on subjects discussed. So much was gleaned from these sessions that staff soon thought about extending the opportunity to others as well, in keeping with JAAL's objective of getting Christians to converse about matters of faith.
Yesterday, The Rev filed his first post on "Scripture vs Ethics", about the trial of ethics classes in NSW public schools. This will be followed by weekly written posts – and a monthly video post – on topical and non-topical subjects like, "What does it mean to be a Christian", "Predestination", and "Pornography" . A range of topics has been proposed, but The Rev welcomes all suggestions. With each topic, he'll explore the issue in the light of what the Scriptures say, encouraging readers to check the Bible themselves, or to refer to other resources. As such, the "The Rev" is in keeping with the Bible Society's mission of getting people to engage with the Word of God.
Those who read the blog are encouraged to think about the issue presented, to engage in a conversation about it, and to invite others in turn to participate. While The Rev initiates the discussions, the blog will be a forum for others to ask questions, express their opinion and respond to his query, "What do you think?"
