Executive Director, UnitingCare NSW.ACT Reverend Harry Herbert said the Australian public had demonstrated wonderful support this year, urging those who had considered participating in this year's Appeal to do so now.
"With one day to go, we are experiencing a shortage of gifts for children, young people, families and older people in crisis.
"This has been a hard year for many Australians. I appreciate that some of you may be cutting back this Christmas but I urge you to consider people in your community who will not celebrate at all – not through choice but through the means to do so.
"Give joy to someone this Christmas. What you give may be small but it may be the only gift someone receives this year" said Rev. Herbert.
Now in its 18th year, the UnitingCare Christmas Appeal is a collaborative effort of UnitingCare, one of the largest community services providers in Australia, and Target.
If you'd like to give the gift of Christmas this year become involved simply by visiting your local Target or Target Country store and selecting a gift tag from the UnitingCare Christmas tree to buy or make a gift for someone in need.
Alternatively gift vouchers are available from the check out or online at www.target.com.au/giftcards.
Every gift purchased is distributed by UnitingCare in the area in which it was purchased.
UnitingCare helps 1.8 million children, young people, families and older people in crisis every day. UnitingCare NSW.ACT works without fear or favour to provide services to 30,000 vulnerable Australians.
Ambassadors and Friends of the UnitingCare Christmas Appeal include Damien Leith, former Australian Idol winner and Adam Harvey, winner of seven Golden Guitar Awards.
