"When I look back on my life now, all these years later, I still wonder what were the many factors that influenced me to do all that I could to ensure that I continued my education whereas all my other classmates choose not to," mused Sandra Wan.
But she had a very special influence upon her life. Her grandparents were people who had a great love for Jesus Christ and this fascinated her more than any other thing in her life.
"I would watch them go off to prayer meetings and fellowship nights, and I was always interested in what they talked about at these occasions," Sandra Wan noted.
Sandra was one of the Papua New Guinea delegates at the recent Baptist World Alliance Living Waters Australasian-South Pacific conference held in Cairns where she gave a video testimony for Australian Missionary News IPTV.
"Nothing fascinated me more than listening to my grandparents talking about the Lord Jesus, and I could not wait to be invited to go along with them and see for myself what this Jesus Christ did for them," Sandra Wan remembered.
And as soon as she was old enough, at 10 years of age, eyes wide with anticipation and excitement, Sandra Wan got her chance to go along with her grandparents. She told Mark Tronson of the Australian Missionary News IPTV that she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour right then and there.
"All I wanted to do was to pray, this is what my grandparents did, and I too wanted to become a person of prayer. I prayed and I was baptised and I have since been very much aware of answered prayer all throughout my life," Sandra noted.
The Lord has honoured Sandra Wan in a very special way in her commitment to follow Him. She works for the MAF (Missionary Aviation Fellowship) in Mt Hagen in a very special missionary role and she is a Sunday School teacher in the Tega Baptist Church.
Sandra Wan said, in conclusion: "My prayer is that my life will have the same influence on the next generation as my grandparents had on me, and that they will become followers of Jesus Christ."
