Yet Robbie Mariner says that it is much more difficult to be the worship pastor at the Auckland Hosanna Church, where he seeks to develop the 'AA' principles – Ability and Anointing - with his charges.
"I've learned the difference between singing in the entertainment industry and in worship to the Lord, the two things are poles apart and I for one, find worship much more of a challenge with the AA emphasis," Robbie Mariner explained.
It was in 2004 that life changed for Robbie when he was sitting in a Youth Forum where one verse of Scripture spoke into his life.
It came from 1 Corinthians 1 verse 27, "But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty."
"This verse stuck with me, that God can use anybody, even me," Robbie Mariner recalled. "For in the world of entertainment, I saw many things go down, and this verse spoke into my heart and I made a decision to follow Jesus from the time I heard it spoken."
Robbie Mariner was one of the New Zealand delegates at the recent Baptist World Alliance Living Water Australasian – South Pacific conference held in Cairns where he gave a video testimony for Australian Missionary News IPTV.
As conference worship leaders, Robbie and his wife Jolene brought to the Cairns conference seven of the forty-six members of his Auckland Hosanna Church Music Team.
"I am constantly impressing upon the worship team this 'AA' emphasis, ability and anointing, as I can hear the difference as well as feel it," Robbie Mariner told Mark Tronson of the Australian Missionary News IPTV.
Robbie and Jolene have two children, Samira who he says is eleven going on twenty one, and son Dean Ruben who is six. Both are musically inclined and enjoy their worship and singing.
