Well-Being Australia chairman Mark Tronson, who specialises in Athlete and Coach Respite, first met Hui Tong in 2006 at the AIS Diving Unit at Chandler in Brisbane.
Since then, Hui Tong and his wife Xing and their children have visited Basil Sellers Tweed Respite facility (shared with the High Performance Centre of Surfing Australia) at Casuarina, only on hour from their home in Brisbane.
He has also found it valuable for his national elite coaches to also undertake respite at this facility, and in his view, his coaches too required respite.
Last year Well-Being Australia incorporated into their ministry the Australian Missionary News IPTV (Internet Protocol Television – Television on the Internet) and last year in that ministry anchorman Mark Tronson interviewed two AIS Head Coaches.
First was AIS Cricket Unit Head Coach Greg Chappell and later AIS Softball Head Coach Fabian Barlow.
Last week Diving's Hui Tong agreed to be the third AIS Head Coach to be interviewed by the Australian Missionary News IPTV.
A series of questions were sent to Hui Tong relating to his diving years, how he developed his international coaching prowess, a question on sports pressure, the AIS program for elite divers and finally, the value of Respite.
Ian Carlson a Well-Being Australia volunteer and one of the regular video operators for the Australian Missionary News IPTV accompanied Mark Tronson to Chandler and operated the video camera for the duration of the interview.
There was a small group of people watching as Hui Tong's interviews are usually short because they are either before or after a Diving Tournament and concentrate on specific performances of his charges. This was a rare chance for him to give an in-depth public interview. There was a unanimous positive response to Hui Tong's answers.
The interview is currently being edited for the Australian Missionary News IPTV which houses interviews in four categories: Sport Movers, Mission Movers, Media Movers and Professional Movers.
