March 22 is World Water Day, a day that has been recognized worldwide since the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in 1993, in order to draw attention to the plight of the more than 1 billion people worldwide that lack access to clean, safe drinking water.
"My children no longer have diarrhea!" exclaimed an emotional young mother in an impoverished region of The Philippines. This is a cry that Convoy of Hope personnel have come to hear often. A team had recently installed a water filter in her home, providing the family with a free, permanent source of pure water.
International compassion organization Convoy of Hope believes that having access to this life-sustaining necessity is a basic human right, and is actively working to address this rising global demand. Over the last three years, Convoy of Hope has made a difference in thousands of lives around the globe by:
· Installing affordable water systems in homes, schools, and countries such as The Philippines, El Salvador, Bulgaria, Haiti, Zimbabwe and Sudan
· Providing safe drinking water to victims of disasters such as in Burma and Indonesia
· Equipping like-minded partners, organizations and individuals, by training others in the construction and installation of the appropriate water technologies.
Convoy of Hope's water initiatives will be featured at the 2009 March of Technology, 9 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Library Center, 4653 South Campbell in Springfield.
