Now Delma has completed a course on 'Pastoral Care with Ageing Persons' in Tweed Heads, where they currently live and operate the athlete respite centre Basil Sellers Tweed.
In all these years of Christian service, Delma Tronson has played a leading role in ministry in addition to having a supporting ministry to Mark. She is no shrinking violet in terms of 'willing' ministry.
In their early pastoral years serving in local churches like many a young mum, Delma was involved in the tiny tot, kindergarten and junior ministries along with the various ladies' outreaches.
As their sports ministry developed and her own family became independent young people, Delma joined Mark as much as she was available. Her experience was invaluable to him in helping to understand the needs of a young family when they were involved in chaplaincies both nationally and on the international circuit.
In these situations Delma spoke on many occasions in workshops and seminars, including at times when they had engagements in the United States and the United Kingdom.
When, in 2000 they were released by Heads of Churches from the Sports and Leisure Ministry so as to establish Well-Being Australia which focuses on athlete respite, Delma came into her own.
Delma has addressed numerous Australian Institute of Sport women's sport groups at Basil Sellers Moruya (south coast) and Tweed (north coast) facilities in New South Wales. On one illustrious occasion, she 'wowed' the Australian Olympic and Australian Institute of Sport 'Boxing Team' with her down-to-Earth good sense.
"Mark and the other Well-Being Australia team members were away and it came to me to address the Boxing Squad," Delma recalled. "I knew nothing about boxing and felt a little daunted but head coach Bodo Andreas made me very welcome."
The humour of the occasion came when Delma had concluded her address and Bodo Andreas indicated they were expecting a longer discourse, so the time was extended to a significant question and answer session.
On relocating to the Tweed in 2006 to establish the Basil Sellers Tweed athlete respite facility, Delma immediately set about by involving herself in local ministry including becoming part of the Domain Nursing Home worship team.
"After three years of ministry to the elderly it came to Delma's notice that the Southern Cross Care was running a course for 'Pastoral Care with Ageing Persons' and Delma made a commitment," Mark Tronson explained.
Delma attended classes each Tuesday's over an eight week period. Even though it meant that she had to give up her Craft Ministry Class, it was important to her that she honed her skills in this area.
The course proved to be much more in-depth than anticipated and Delma's graduation was met with much family rejoicing.
Delma Tronson has already addressed the 'Just For You' group on the 'Pastoral Care with Ageing Persons' course. To engage her audience, Delma distributed a flyer detailing the topic of each Tuesday's class. This easily-accessed information was well received.
