
City were in the box seat knowing a win would seal the title as they hosted QPR who needed a point to maintain their premiership survival. Manchester United were away at Sunderland and they did their part with a 1-0 win to make Manchester City have to win their match to take the title. City started well with a mammoth amount of possession over 80% however it took until just before the break to open the scoring. The sense of relief was felt as it looked like City would go on and cruise to victory. However after half time QPR needing a point at this stage, came out firing and pounced on an opportunity for Cisse to level. 20 minutes later they were not reading the script, as they scored from only there 3rd shot of the match to take the lead. This was not what anyone would expect and City then mounted on the pressure! The pressure had to tell and after substitutions and countless shots, injury time was the setting as City found a way through, then with seconds remaining the unthinkable happened, and City found a winner to send the stadium into raptures and scenes of delirium.
At the other end of the table, Bolton were in contention for demotion to the Championship and they needed a win to send QPR down instead. However after going ahead 2-1 they couldn't hold onto the lead and were pegged back to a 2-2 draw to send Bolton down for the first time in 11 years. This left the party in Manchester double times as QPR were also celebrating staying the top flight of English football.
The battle for the last automatic Champions League position was still up for grabs as Arsenal needed to win to cement 3rd spot. The gunners faced a tricky test as they travelled to West Brom with Hodgsons last appearance before leaving for England duties. The gunners came from behind to eventually win 3-2 and finish their season well in 3rd position.
Sundays final fixtures ended with Villa loosing 2-0 to Norwich while Everton beat Newcastle 3-1. Swansea capped off an impressive season with a 1-0 win over Liverpool, Spurs won 2-0 at home to Fulham while Wigan beat relegated Wolves 3-2.
