Every four years this brilliant culture comes together to collide in the most brutal of forms, the "Rugby World Cup".
So many different stories, hopes, and the hopes of nations come together and after five weeks a victor is chosen. A dozen teams leave having failed another four year mission and one happy nation has memories that will last a lifetime.
As we approach this World Cup, let's take a closer look at some of the stories behind the stories.
Realistically there are eight nations who have a legitimate shot at the title. I won't name them as that would be insulting. But if you are a genuine analyst of the game them it's hard to say more than eight nations could win the cup.
If we start in the northern hemisphere you can't go past the French, there the top ranked side in the north according to the IRB world rankings. It may have been over a decade ago but the semi final against New Zealand in '99 still haunts a number of former players in the Southern Isle.
The English will be strong but very boring if they play their traditional lack lustre game plan of kicking for goal and not entertaining the fans. Some fans from other nations are offered Epipen's to jolt them just in case they start to fall into a coma!
The Irish and the Scots will be there usual selves which is all passion and pride, it will just be their lack of skill execution that will see them fall by the wayside once they hit the quarters and have to face a southern hemisphere side.
The Southern hemisphere has the three juggernauts in world rugby. The South Africans have been their cagy selves by hiding their players from their International duties and spilling all the milk when other Tri Nations side retaliate on return trips to their homeland. They are always in with a chance to win with their superb kicking play and hardnosed forwards.
It's the Aussies who are shaping as the genuine deal by hitting top form again leading into another World Cup as they traditionally do. The execution and skill is matched by their forward power and reinvigorated scrums and lineout's. This combined with some very classy young backs is going to cause some real headaches for other contenders.
Last but not least there's the hosts the perennial favourites and under achievers the Kiwi's. Limping into another World Cup with the gas tank nearing empty after three years of world dominance, the fans are starting to bite their nails...again.
Once again they have overplayed their hand, but you have to wonder will this year be different. I recently spoke to the well travelled expert rugby analyst Craig Henderson.
Craig says, "the problem with New Zealand is they start believing their own trash talk and get sucked into local media hype". He further states, "The New Zealand media are merely fans in disguise as reporters. They type with their hearts and fail to report the fuller story. For example the last Tri Nations game in Brisbane the media passed over the Ali Williams professional foul and the appalling tactics of their forward pack led by none other than Saint McCaw himself being offside at every ruck and maul."
It would be a dream for organisers if they got to see a rematch between the number one and number two teams in the world, brace yourself people...the fireworks are coming!
