Tech giant Google is likely to install a new launcher in the forthcoming latest Nexus handsets, believed to be code-named the HTC Marlin and HTC Sailfish.
As per the updates in the new launcher, it will eliminate the app drawer icon, but not the app drawer.
Instead, users can access the app drawer by sliding up on the "frosted" zone at the foot of the home screen, which will include at least five icons inside this zone. Otherwise, users can slide up on the small arrow above the frosted zone or touch on the arrow. To shut the drawer, scroll down from anywhere on the screen except the navigation bar and the notification panel.
The launcher is also incorporated with a revised search bar on the top of the drawer. Apart from that, the new drawer will resemble the current app drawer.
On the home screen, the Google Search app has been changed with a calendar widget, which is opposite what appears to be a "G pull-tab. Pulling the tab won't perform anything, but tapping on it will open Google Search. It is also expected that it will have new navigation buttons to give it a new look.
Google has yet to confirm the rumored home screen modifications.
It is likely that the new launcher will be provided in the Nexus models operating on Android 7.0 Nougat.
In the meantime, Nexus 2016 will largely target the high-end market and is believed to run on Qualcomm's newly rolled out Snapdragon 821 processor. It will have a 5.2-inch display with 4GB Ram. The gadget will be available in two storage variants, 32 GB and 64 GB, along with microSD expandable slots.
Google is yet to announce its specific release date, but it is expected to come later this month.
