
Newcastle continued their push for a European place with a 2-0 win over Liverpool. Andy Carroll was welcomed back with a hostile reception but couldn't help the cause as Newcastle were too strong and are now level on points with Chelsea and 5 points away from a Champions League place.
Chelsea also remained in the hunt for a Champions League place with a fantastic 4-2 win away at Villa Park although it was only for 2 late strikes as Villa fought desperately for a point. Villa are now in real danger of being dragged back into the relegation battle as they are only 5 points clear of the drop zone.
The weekends other fixtures saw Everton beat West Brom 2-0 while Fulham overcame Norwich 2-1 at the Cottage. QPR surprised Arsenal with a 2-1 win at home and Bolton won a 6 pointer over Wolves 3-2. Wigan also stayed in the hunt to defy the odds and avoid the drop with a 2-0 win over Stoke City. Tottenham were too strong for Swansea, winning 3-1 in London.
