Why a great game?
Top of the ladder Geelong are undefeated this season. Third place Hawthorn have only lost two games this season. One of these games was in round one against Adelaide in Adelaide. The second was against Geelong in round five at the MCG (17.15.117 - 15.8.98).
This score is deceptive. The game was close up till the final five minutes when a changeover moved the momentum to Geelong. The result then was Geelong rolled on and Hawthorn gained confidence that they are close to the best in the league. They also gained motivation to knock off Geelong next time they meet.
Last week Geelong thumped the Western Bulldogs (23.10.148 to 13.9.87). Despite the Dogs starting well it was again the Cats that dominated the stats. Hawthorn also had a comfortable win over Fremantle (17.9.111 to 13.11.89). The difference in these two games is that the Hawks started well in the first quarter and then cruised home.
But that was then and this is now. The Hawks have been slowly improving each game and now are playing their best footy in years. Are they the ones to knock the Cats off this Saturday? It is worth watching: MCG Saturday night 7.10pm.
