Developed by Olive Tree Media, The Men's Series looks at 11 topics relevant to men using a chat show style TV format. The programs were filmed in front of a live audience who were also able to contribute to the show's topic in a question and answer session.
Hosted by Karl Faase, Senior Pastor of Gymea Baptist Church and Al Stewart, formerly the Bishop of Wollongong in the Sydney Anglican Diocese and now heading up the 'Geneva Push', each episode features an interview with an expert who opens up the chosen topic.
Topics covered over the 11 episodes include depression and anxiety, work, finding your passion, sex, marriage, mid-life crisis, parenting, finding faith, mates, health and money and generosity.
Both Karl and Al share the task of teaching on the topic from a Biblical perspective in a 12 minute message.
Melbourne based Christian poet Cameron Semmens is the programs resident poet and in each episode he presents poems linking in with the topic of the show.
"We also have a music segment," said Karl Faase. "For our first record day we featured Simeon from Melbourne who was accompanied by Peter Whalley on guitar. Future shows will feature Colin Buchanan and Mike McCarthy
The Men's Series will air on the Australian Christian Channel from July 1st, 2010 and be available on DVD from late August.
"I believe there is a real need for resources for men in our churches," said Karl. "Not only is the series meant for TV, it's also designed to be used by local churches via DVD. Through a comprehensive DVD menu, churches can decide to just use the talks or the interviews," Karl said. "We've tried to make it as versatile as possible," he said.
