In his book, 'No Way to Behave at a Funeral', Mr Braun details his wife, Maris' long battle with depression, a battle she ultimately lost, and his own battle of guilt and grief.
Mr Braun said the purpose behind the book was to both honour his wife of 41 years and to share his very personal tragedy with others suffering through the agony of losing a loved one to suicide.
"I wrote this book because I wanted to honour my wife Maris for the forty one years we shared together. I loved all those years and continue to love her.
"I wanted to give some hope, comfort and support to those whose lives have been shattered by the suicide of a loved one.
"By sharing my pain, my loss, my emptiness, I hope that others who have had a similar experience will find they are not alone in their pain, their grief, their anguish, their feelings of inadequacy and inability to cope," said Mr Braun.
"I hope the lessons I learnt following my wife's suicide may help others to understand their grief. We had no choice in the tragedy, but we do have a choice in how we respond to it. There is always hope in the worst of situations.
Suicide continues to be a devastating reality in Australia with approximately 2000 people choosing to end their lives each year, which is why Mr Braun's contribution to understanding issues of depression, guilt, pain and grief is so important.
Mr Braun's account of his loss of Maris has been lauded by SANE Australia and the American Association of Suicidology.
"An involving account of the devastation, guilt and pain commonly experienced by people bereaved by suicide. It is a moving love story and a tale of resilience, offering reassurance and a sense of hope to others similarly bereaved," according to Ms Barbara Hocking, Executive Director, SANE Australia
Ms Michelle Linn-Gust, President-Elect of the American Association of Suicidology, said "Noel Braun gives us the honour of travelling his suicide grief journey after the loss of his beloved wife Maris. He lets us walk with him and understand the devastation that suicide brings and his road of learning to find hope again".
