Homeland has elected its new president. Actress Elizabeth Marvel has been cast as the political thirller's first female president of United States.
Marvel is set to play the role of president elect Elizabeth Keane, a former junior senator who is yet to be introduced when the action picks up in sixth season.
She previously starred in Netflix's 'House of Cards' as Heather Dunbar, and was also seen recently in a recurring role in season 2 of 'Fargo'.
Production of the upcoming season is set to begin in August in New York. It will be the first season to shift the main focus back to the United States since the drama's third season. The cast and the crew have been abroad for the past two seasons, filming primarily in Berlin and Cape Town.
Homeland showrunner Alex Gansa told Entertainment Weekly, "The whole season takes place between Election Day in November and the inauguration of a new president in January."
