According to the article the Holden Commodore will be more fuel efficient than ever, with an improving economy on the family car - the best seller for 15 straight years - to as little as 8.4 litres per 100km in the short term.
Quoted was Mike Devereux the CEO of Holden Australia who claimed that they were very confident about the long-term future of locally-made rear-wheel-drive family and performance cars. And moreover, they remain very confident Australians want to have families with backyards.

Family vehicles remain 'the go' and moreover Australian desires for a house with a picket fence, back yard and family vehicles are as real today as 'the ideal' as it ever was.
Holden have done their research well. Australians love the family image and family size cars. Not only does the statistics show this but that families are booking their vehicles for purchase on the basis of two things: family and need.
A robust vehicle is important to Australians. We like the family vehicle that can carry all the kids and grand-ma and grand-dad if required, or the working twin cab larger ute where a bit of both – work and family can be matched.
We had four children, and this required something more than a sedan, and we ended up with VW 8 seaters for 18 years that were changed over regularly. This next generation it seems, is following suit.
We were recently on a Midge Point property in the Whitsundays areas where we were taken on a tour of the area and along with the new developments on a large twin can ute, that looked more like an F100 light truck. It was in effect a smooth riding plushy cushy seated vehicle with 4 wheel drive, large wheels and a huge utility back.
There is a wide range of people who find this kind of vehicle 'just the ticket' and they soon discover that petrol is still the cheapest component of owning a motor vehicle.
"The family" needs are undisputed by the research - Churches that are growing – Protestant and Pentecostal - have marketed to this same "family" philosophy – the quarter acre block and the family as this is 'the ideal' to which people aspire.
Reverend Russell Hinds has a proven history in church growth, establishing Baptist Churches from a hand full of people to congregations of 600 and more. He's achieved this in rural and regional cities in Queensland. He's constructed multi-purpose church buildings in three days with volunteers from around the nation.
He recently relocated from the Gold Coast Family (his latest church growth phenomenon) to a tiny congregation of 20 people at Tweed Coast (Cabarita). His first Sunday he had on the big screen a majestic colourful 'screen saver photograph' of the Cabarita beach with a family, with young people and grand parents in varying modes.
His second Sunday 50 adults came to church along with loads of children. Reverend Russell Hinds understands and interprets the family statistical data with a clarity that has always borne remarkable outcomes.
No less so as has Holden and many other major companies that survive on such marketing clarity.
Reverend Russell Hinds was recently interviewed by the Australian Missionary News on his understanding of family and church growth and this can be viewed at either
