Dwyer 31, has previously won this global award in 2004, 2007 and 2009 and he is the first ever person to have won four 'Best Hockey Player of the Year' awards.
Interviewed on ABC radio national and on Fox Sports, Jamie Dwyer said that he doesn't play for this award, but when such an accolade comes along it is very pleasantly received.
He spoke of honing his specific skills relating to mid field interceptions and reflection goals.
The Kookaburras, he noted have an unheralded record over the past 30 years of retaining their position within the top four hockey nations. This means that in any pre tournament calculation, hockey commentators automatically place Australia as one of the semi-finalists.
In reality, that only leaves three other semi-final positions for the other nations, and only one position in which ever pool, Australia is placed.
The Germans, the Dutch, the Indians, the Pakistani's, the Spanish, the New Zealanders and the English (the other leading hockey nations) are never that sure of a semi-final berth.
Yet, Jamie Dwyer says, the Kookaburras do not have a major sponsor that will see up-and-coming athletes take on hockey, knowing they will be financially rewarded if they chose one of the football codes or cricket.
He is married (his wife is a former Dutch representative) with a son and another baby expected shortly. Born in 1979 in Rockhampton, Queensland his quote relating to the wider family watching him play as a junior was: "You just don't score goals for yourself".
This terrific comment "You just don't score goals for yourself", could be any missionary's calling card as what's achieved is obviously very pleasing but there is a much wider Kingdom dimension in which many benefit with rejoicing in the Lord.
