In fact it was a rather perfect way to start what is quite an important month for me. Not only do I turn 25 a matter of days but come the final week of July, I will welcome in six months since leaving my beloved New Zealand and all the people I miss so much.
There's part of me that feels this would be the perfect time to sit back, take a Bridget Jones style inventory of my life so far and make some ridiculously unattainable resolutions for the coming year.
Number 1… just kidding.
My biggest fear about starting the new job was not the work load or the new people, it was the idea that I might actually enjoy it and not want to leave when my six month contract comes to an end.
Unsurprisingly then this is exactly what has happened. I am enjoying the feelings of stability and contentment that my new career has brought.
I'm not going to lie, I did read an article the other day and spent the rest of the evening in a semi-panicked state about how many of my 25 years I had wasted not changing the world.
However, there is a lot to be said for the beauty of routine and consistency, and the discipline of committing to something day after day.
As an Employment Support Assistant for Lancashire County Council my job mainly involves a lot of creating Word documents, updating spreadsheets and answering telephones, but I am satisfied in the knowledge that for at least some of the 25 other people in my team I might have just made life a little bit easier.
Well… for now at least.
