December 1936: count down to the new year 1937
I have always been interested in both history and family records. I recently found, in our family archives, an article my mother had kept dated 27 December 1936 from the 'Sunday Sun and Guardian' dated December 27th 1936, headed "The curtain falls on a most dramatic year." .

Faith to Prevail
Katy Perry is currently a top of the charts pop star. Since the 2008 release of her album "One of the Boys," Katy has taken a fast ride to the top. She topped charts in more than 25 countries with cultural minefield "I Kissed a Girl," "Hot N Cold," and "Waking Up in Vegas," and has sold more than 22 million digital tracks and mobile products worldwide. One of her songs \"UR So Gay\" sparked negative reactions from both church and gay rights organisations.

1935 concern for Australian authors
Rifling through the family archive air tight chest recently, I came across an article my mother had kept. It was dated 5 May 1935 and was from the 'Sunday Sun and Guardian', and its headline read: "Our Competitions: Australian Authors - Do we neglect them?"

Many Missions have started off in the home
A thought-provoking article I read recently, describes two examples of home makers initiating highly profitable businesses from their homes. Of course, this isn't new. Bill Gates is a famous example of someone doing this, but it shows that even less famous 'people next door' can also use their initiative to start something big.

Short term ministry in India
In 2007, I had the privilege of going to India on a short term mission trip with a team of seven others. Missionary work is a calling on the life of every Christian and can take many different forms. In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus gives us the great commission to make disciples within all nations and teach the people to obey His commandments. This opportunity for me to go to India was one way I could be part of the call to become a disciple myself and teach people of that country.

Changing sporting bad habits
I would like to introduce myself and my interest in sports coaching. I am a sports scientist, now having trained as a Christian minister working as a sports chaplain. This is my 'dream' job, combining my long-term interests of sport and health. During my years of experience, I have become interested in how elite athletes 'get the most out of their sport and exercise.'

A Review of The Christian Atheist. By Craig Groeschel.
God's prophets have always had to remind God's people that God expects his people to live a life which corresponds to their beliefs. That is, God expects his people's walk to match their talk. Simply saying that you believe, while living quite differently, just does not cut it.

Letters from a past era
In my office is a large air-tight chest which is where we keep the family archives. These archives consist of many things; but perhaps the most significant in historical terms are the handwritten letters dating from the early 1930s

The 'hover' car might still be a goer!
The \'hover car\' recently came one step closer. An article in news.com.au article by Kate Schneider reports the release of the new technological \'hover plane\', illustrating how aeronautical engineers have overcome the slow speeds of conventional helicopters by combining both propellers and fixed wings.

A politician on the receiving end!
A recently-reported incident that occurred at a club in the Northern Territory town of Katherine really disturbed me. A drunken man inappropriately touched the wife of Country Liberal Member for Katherine, Willem Westra Van Holthe. When Van Holthe asked the man to stop, he himself got king hit.
