Learning to forgive

Learning to forgive

Forgive. It can be something we often expect others to do, and yet we forget or neglect that we need to do it too. Forgiving is one of the things I find challenging. When someone has done me wrong, it can be so hard sometimes to look past the hurt they have caused that it can even turn into bitterness. It is something I can find easier said than done. When we have been hurt, it is so easy for us to want the worst to happen to the person that has hurt us. You could even say it is a natural reacti.

  • The Thrill of the Journey

Life has not been without its tough times moving from one town to another. I know some people have it tougher, I am very fortunate, but taking my wife and three boys on a 5500km journey through four states of Australia, to a place where I had no job and no home we could call our own was close to the biggest leap of faith I have ever taken.

  • Seasons

In Melbourne recently the weather has taken a serious turn towards winter-like conditions. Mid-week we experienced one of those days where all you felt like doing was staying rugged up inside with the heater on. The rain was constant and the wind had a real chill to it. Even just stepping outside for a few minutes to take the rubbish out was a sufficient reminder to me about how blessed we are to have a safe and warm place to call home.

  • Simply Worship

I believe there is nothing more important or powerful that a human being can do than worship God. In today's modern context we so often associate worship with music, but its so much more than that, it's a lifestyle. That being said, all throughout biblical history, worship is often recorded with songs and instruments, and I think God has specifically designed music to lavishly express the heart of worship in a magnificently stirring way.

  • The French Presidential election and a recent killing spree

Just weeks before the presidential election, France is being shaken by events which will definitely influence the result of the election.

  • Turning suffering into joy

How could God allow suffering in this world? Why do bad things happen to us? The presence of suffering, injustice, tragedy is a problem for everyone. Most people, regardless of their background, agree that human beings ought not to suffer, be excluded, die of hunger or oppression. So how do we make sense of these realities?

  • NSW bikie shootings bring fear and Machine Gun Preacher Sam Childers brings hope

Warring bikie gangs have been identified and blamed for an upsurge of shootings in Sydney\'s western suburbs. Authorities and politicians are to ramp up their battle against the wave of gun crime in NSW. Four of the five shootings in one day (17th April 2012) have been attributed to two well-known Sydney gangs.

  • Dealing with change

Change is often painful, especially when it's unexpected, uncontrollable, or in a direction contrary to where you believed God had planned to take you and your ministry.

  • The Shoe is a lot smaller on my foot.

Advice is a wonderful thing to give someone, especially if we are not the ones in need of that advice. It is far easier to tell someone how they should approach a situation than to follow our own advice once we start going through the same thing.

  • Is Democracy Christian?

Religion and politics are often mixed together, but I believe a fairly basic question about governance is often overlooked. Simply put, "Is democracy Christian?" While democracy has been shown to increase living standards and improve many aspects of quality of life, I think it is interesting to consider biblical precedent.

  • Travel that makes a difference – Adventure awaits!

Have you aspired to travel the world? Do you have a desire to make a difference in people's lives? Do you dream of adventure and going to the places other people never see on their holidays?

  • Freedom

If you stop and talk to someone about the aims they have in life and the paradigm that controls their decisions you'll find a couple of things. Firstly you'll hear a casual uncertainty – people of all social spheres seem to quite happily admit that they aren't certain, but that they are doing something that works so far.
