The greatest threat to your faith

The greatest threat to your faith

Risk has been part of church history, from the Book of Acts till today. Yet comfort and compliancy is what we seem to crave most from our church experience. How do we live for Christ and escape this threat to our faith?.

  • Flight MH370 – a regular traveller between Australia and China

In Beijing, hundreds of family members of passengers on MH370 finally cried out aloud, after Malaysian Prime Minister Najib announced that the flight has crashed into south Indian Ocean.

  • Compromising Genesis diminishes the authority of God's Word

I recently had the privilege of attending a talk at my church given by Ken Ham (President / CEO and founder Answers in Genesis-US and the Creation Museum). Ken is a biblical apologist, author of many books such as The Lie: Evolution, and he is someone who continually defends the accuracy and authority of the word of God (The Bible). It was great to see how passionate he is about his ministry.

  • Is singleness really a gift from God?

Are you unmarried? Do not look for a wife. But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this (1 Corinthians 7 verses 27 and 28).

  • The secular and the sacred

Growing up in a Christian home, I often encountered in those years the need to commit my life to a Christian beyond the church doors. That is to say, I had to learn how to not be a 'Sunday Christian' and my youth was full of clichés such as 'Standing in a garage doesn't make you a car; neither does standing in a church make you a Christian.'

  • Facebook turns ten - Is it time to switch off?

It's hard to believe that Facebook turns ten this year! Ten years of status updates, friend requests, likes, comments, photos and check ins. And while I haven't had a profile on Facebook for the whole ten years of its existence, I have been online long enough for this milestone to hit home and make me ponder over how much time I may have wasted scrolling up and down my somewhat boring news feed.

  • What am I speaking?

'What am I speaking?' It is a legitimate question to ask yourself. It has only been in recent years that I have begun to understand the importance of our words, and the impact that they have on our lives. I remember back to when I was young teenager and getting in trouble off my parents for swearing, gossiping or speaking negativity- (I'm the first to admit I was not the perfect child).

  • I want to harness the power of old people; a dream

So... I want to harness the power of old people. Why? And what does this mean? What power do \"old people\" possess that young people do not? Well obviously there are the wrinkles, probably a caravan, some old cups, many faded pictures, grey hair, a few funny stories, and a funky smell... To be honest I feel that our aged friends are often only seen for these things.

  • Anxious thoughts don't always speak the truth

As someone who has struggled with anxiety for most of my life, I have learnt a lot about how much damage it can do. At times, anxiety is quite normal and helpful. For instance, if you were to come face to face with a grizzly bear, anxiety would become incredibly useful in telling you to run away.

  • Love thy neighbour

I am a privileged person, all you have to do is inspect the corners of my life to realise this is true. I have travelled to new and foreign lands to experiences that I am lucky to have encountered, I have spent thousands of dollars on the luxury of therapy- albeit much needed.

  • Confessions of a control freak

Confession: My favourite TV shows are the trashy ones. Despite being an avid media studies student with an appetite for all things art-house and 'indie' my guilty screen time craving is trash. We're talking, Sex and the City, or Grey's Anatomy or my number one favourite, Gossip Girl.

  • Glory seekers

You are a glory seeker? You dream of scoring the winning goal, of performing in front of thousands, of doing something huge. And why? You would look amazing. You would be praised. You would become a god. Sure, there are some other reasons why you may have aspirations such as these, but they all pale in power and comparison to having your name in neon lights for all to see.
