  • I’m engaged!

The next General Election in New Zealand is coming up on Saturday 14th October 2023. This is the opportunity that those of us who are 18-years of age or older have to participate in our democratic right to help select those who will govern New Zealand for the next term of three years.

  • Peace Like A River

The continuous noise of life seems to have become a louder continuum for many people over the last few years, perhaps more so than I have experienced in recent decades.

  • Open doors

In May 2015, Craig Bellamy, former rugby league player and coach of the Melbourne Storm in the Australian NRL for the last 21 years, wrote a column in The Australian newspaper that said sports chaplains are a much-needed resource in rugby league.

  • Lament

I’m a self-diagnosed dates person. I remember dates as they are a way of thinking about what I’ve learnt about life and what progress I’ve made over time.

  • Ready for a revolution

We all love a rousing Bible Scripture to tweet or post to our social media accounts. They become motivational memes and niceties that help us navigate long winters and bad days, and who hasn’t felt inspired when your Grandma writes you a card with the classic verse from Joshua chapter 1, verse 9,“Be strong and courageous.

  • Generational love

Over the course of my life, I’ve been involved in many, and varied, organisations. One thing they all have in common is that they involved themselves in strategic planning processes, increasingly so as the world changes at a fast rate as we come out of COVID-19 and its effect.

  • Small is big

There was much excitement recently in Auckland when American multinational membership-only big-box retailer Costco opened its first New Zealand retail store. It had been long delayed due to COVID construction holdups, and much excitement had been built for several years.

  • Where’s my sock?

English is a difficult language when we get into some of its intricacies. For example, English has a bunch of homophones, words that sound the same but are different.

  • It’s Your Funeral

As a local church pastor, I’ve recently conducted my 47th funeral. It’s a privilege to be in a role that gives me the opportunity to be pastorally present with people who either journey though death, or with families as they traverse the wide array of emotions that grief opens up.

  • Surprise. Depression.

I’m writing this in the middle of Aotearoa New Zealand’s winter, July 2022. It’s the third July in a row where our lives have been affected by the global pandemic that is COVID-19.
