Well Being Australia (WBA) initiated the daily sports articles in February, 2010 and has now issued each writer with a Press Service International (PSI) website. PSI is the Well-Being Australia press media wing.
WBA chairman and author, Mark Tronson believed that the sports articles needed to reach a more youthful audience. Having published 24 books and serving 24 years as a Hockey writer for The Australian, Mark is pleased that Christian journalists are gaining higher recognition.
All of the young sports journalists for Well Being Australia are sports mad!! Jeremy Dover is a former tri-athlete and marathon runner, Clayton Hinds is crazy about sport and spent two and a half years on Mission in Africa, Rosie Timmins is an avid sports participant and training as a journalist, Wesley Tronson has returned from the UK and is a dedicated English Soccer fan and Joshua Hinds was a Qld Under 21 Rugby rep.
These young sports writers came together for a mini-conference in June on the Gold Coast. A Christian Today Australia executive from Sydney joined them.
Previously, the sports writer's articles were placed in a PSI archive where readers were required to scroll to the bottom of the web site to view the sports content. But now with an individual web presence, more traffic can enjoy the articles on a regular basis.
Mark Tronson said that having attended the Australasian Religious Press Association (APRA) annual conference in Hobart last week, it became obvious that for the first time young Christian journalists became a recognised presence. To this end Well-Being Australia is arranging for the young sports writers to attend the 2011 ARPA conference in Adelaide.
