'Young Comment writers' are the next group of Well-Being Australia's 'Press Service International' team to supply articles to this international communications service.
In March five young volunteer sports writers were incorporated into the PSI team and in June they came together for a mini-conference on the Gold Coast with Christian Today Australia.
Well-Being Australia chairman Mark Tronson has been so pleased with the sports writers outcomes that he began tossing around the idea of incorporating young volunteer writers for monthly 'Comment' articles.
Last month the idea came to fruition with Tim Wilson and his first Comment article on the issue of swimmer Stephanie Rice's notorious twitter note. Tim Wilson serves with YWAM (Young With A Mission) in Brisbane and co-ordinates their International Discipleship School 'Sports' module.
Sydney's Nathan Dirs, a fourth year Morling College (NSW Baptist Theological College), student was next with his Maasai experience, written when he visited Kenya in 2008.
Young award-winning scientist Nathanael Yates from Perth wrote a description of a psychology test and its meaning for all of us who think we are ethical and moral in our day-to-day activities, particularly relating to Christianity.
Then Belinda Scotland from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland supplied a thought-provoking article of reflections from her circle of friends on their attitudes to some of the politicians and their beliefs – particularly regarding public statements during the recent Federal election campaign.
Other 'young Comment writers' are coming on board this PSI team. Mark Tronson said that Well-Being Australia is looking for 20 such volunteer young people, each to provide one monthly Comment article.
The process is a little involved, as their articles first go to M V Tronson's editor in Sydney. Mark Tronson is not new to submitting his writing to the editorial process as he has been writing for Christian media and field hockey for the secular media since the early 70s. He is the author of 24 books, five of which were on hockey.
He said the 'young Comment writers' is an exciting development as in effect, as he is following his own advice on 'succession planning' by passing responsibilities on to the next generation of fresh young Christian people, who his editor refers to as 'brilliant young writers'.
