It's a feat of endurance that the less sportive can only marvel at. Already the Bible Society's Bike For Bibles team has travelled more than 6,000km from Broome, and are into the final eleven days of their 7,231km Australia Big Ride. The team is fundraising for a Bible-based literacy programme to help domestic violence victims in Latin America, as well as for Bible distribution prjects in Australia.
Some riders like Allan Melmoth have been doing a great job riding and blogging at the same time, sharing their experiences via social media. Melmoth's blog entry two days ago revealed some of the ride's less easy days: "Cold getting worse but still able to ride with the faster team. Yesterday was tough riding, despite some incredible downhill sections. Crosswind was so strong, one dared not ride fast
for fear of being blown off the road."
All in, 65 riders and support crew are taking part, joining the team at different points along the way. Jon McIlveen can't wait to join them at Echuca this Saturday, and school principal David Chappel who rode from Broome-Esperance will re-join the group from Goulburn. Chappel is full of praise for the support shown by communities along the way.
Bible Society welcomes support for the team as it continues on its fundraising goal to raise $400,000, and invites everyone to donate and/or to help spread the word. Details are at biblesociety.org.au/bikes and bikeforbibles.org.au
