Major Bruce Harmer from the Salvos said: "We really do want to thank everyone who donated to the Red Shield Appeal both financially or with their time.
"Unfortunately we are still well short of our goal this year so we need all the support we can get to help those in need.
"The people we see are doing it tough. Our research has shown that over 30% of the clients we see cannot even afford to heat their homes – it's just shocking, particularly coming into the winter months.
"With economic conditions even more difficult than last year, the struggle is really taking a psychological and emotional toll for many clients.
"Many of our centres are full and are experiencing unprecedented requests for support. The community need is greater than ever and would seem to be increasing. In this environment, we renew our request for end of year donations to help us meet current and developing needs.
"The Salvation Army urges anyone who hasn't done so already and can afford it, to generously donate to the Red Shield Appeal before June 30. Every donation makes difference to the lives of those in need," said Major Harmer.
To give to the Red Shield Appeal, please call 13 SALVOS, visit salvos.org.au, donate in person at any Westpac Bank or Big W store, or post your cheque to PO Box 9888 in your capital city.
