Hope 103.2 decided to improve these statistics by organising the mobile blood bank to come to our Seven Hills studios, and encouraged listeners and staff to donate.
One listener responded enthusiastically, "Thanks I had a blast and if it wasn't for Hope 103.2, I am not sure I would ever have jumped on board to give blood!"
A maximum of 60 bookings could be taken on the day but the enthusiasm to help lives was so great, that we received 66 offers to donate blood!
Fear of needles aside, there are many legitimate reasons why people are unable to give and in the end, only 43 blood donations were able to be made on the day.
However, a single blood donation, when separated into its components, can help at least three different patients and contribute to making up to 22 different products, including immunisations for chicken pox, hepatitis B and tetanus.
This means that the donations for the day will go towards saving the lives of 129 people in our community, including children undertaking chemotherapy treatments for leukaemia.
Organiser of the day, Lauren Craddock, shared, "We love hosting the Red Cross and I'm thrilled at the response from our listeners who partnered with us to provide this valuable community service."
